Welcome to my Web site!
My name is Debbie Glovin
Rosenberg. I am a ceramic artist who incorporates found objects from
around the world in hand
thrown, high-fire stoneware. A California native living in Malibu, I
utilize local shells, sea glass, and ash in my work.
Please explore the
online galleries,
where you can see my series of ceramic art, created for beauty and to
honor regional and worldwide events. These pieces have helped raise
cultural awareness along with charitable contributions. They have
supported schools, churches, synagogues, aided in environmental and
victim support and helped rebuild those touched by devastation.
These collections not only
capture a sense of the events but also include materials from the sites, such as
volcanic ash from Mount St. Helens, ash from the Tsunami, wood-ash and
windshield glass
from the Malibu fires. By incorporating these found treasures into each series of
ceramic art,
it creates a powerful energy, which makes each piece of work unique.
My ceramic art resides in
private collections worldwide, as well as graces the homes of Malibu
celebrities, such as world renowned painter Ann Krasner, musician Kenny
G., photographer Lyndie Benson-Gorelick, environmental activist Kelly
Meyer, Universal Studios president Ron Meyer, and Mrs. George C. Scott.
I hope you enjoy the
galleries and feel free to sign my guest book. To purchase a piece or to
commission an order, please contact me directly at the following e-mail
address, malibumade@charter.net.

In
the Oceanware Series, I created ocean "gardens"
- a term
borrowed from the emerald lapidaries - by using individual
pieces of glass and shell to create the cloisonne effect of my
beloved Malibu surf.
|
Collected ash
from the devastation of the Tsunami site, combined with a
variety of glazes in a painterly style suggestive of wave
energy, is evident in this powerful series. |

Combining wood ash with lava
collected at the site, captured the powerful forces
erupting to create the Mount St. Helens series. Each piece
suggests the power of the volcanic eruption. |
In memory of the recent Malibu
fires, I created a series called Malibu Fire and Ash. It
utilizes actual wood ash and window glass salvaged from the
scorched hillsides, along with Malibu shell and sea glass. |

Incorporating ash
left from recent China's Earthquakes inspired the
deep somber hues of this series. Each piece is a tribute to the
lives lost. |
My interest in
history and
culture provide inspiration for sculptured, carved, pierced,
threaded and rough treated clay. These have been incised with blessings
in languages including Thai, Latin, Hawaiian, Ethiopian, Chinese, Hebrew,
French, Russian, Inuit and many others. |

A
cross-cultural and historic perspective combined with finishes
and shapes have lead to this collection. The large vessel
entitled Uterus,
pictured here, echoes the archeological
artifacts from my early explorations of archeological sites in
Israel and Italy. |
Upon
request I have created custom pieces. These can represent
public, political or personal events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, and memorials. I work with each
client to understand
the objective of the piece, and then use shape, color, found
treasures, and carved inscriptions to fashion the one of a kind
work. |
